Surgical repair of the varicocele veins involves making a small incision in the groin area. Using a microscope, your surgeon will locate the vein leading to the varicocele and cut off the blood flow. The incision will be closed with a few small sutures. After the procedure it is recommended that you allow 48 hours for recovery as you may feel groggy and the area may be tender. You must wait at least one week before resuming sexual activity. It is recommended that you schedule a post-operative appointment 1-2 weeks after the procedure.
You can expect to see results approximately three months after the procedure since it takes about 72 days for new sperm to develop. At that time, a semen analysis should be scheduled.
