The Icahn School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

The Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Ichan School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is nationally recognized for its long history of scientific discovery, graduate medical education, and patient-focused compassionate care. In conjunction with the world-renowned in vitro fertilization program at Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medication Education (ACGME) accredited fellowship trains clinicians and physician-scientists in state of the art infertility and IVF treatment, advanced reproductive surgery, and cutting edge research techniques.

Under the supervision of Dr. Erkan Buyuk (Fellowship Director), the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science at Mount Sinai graduates fellows who go on to provide excellent medical and surgical care and who become leaders in the community and in the field. Fellows are exposed to a diverse patient population and to a diverse set of clinical and scientific experiences.

Curriculum

Our curriculum, based on ACOG learning objectives, provides education and training in all aspects of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. This is achieved through expert led didactic lectures, journal clubs, departmental grand rounds, division meetings, research meetings, and hands on clinical, surgical, and research experiences in both REI and other divisions, including:

  • Medical Endocrinology
  • Pediatric Endocrinology
  • Genetics
  • Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery

The fellows’ scientific experience is enriched through basic science research in Icahn School of Medicine’s state of the art laboratories, with a major focus on genetics and through a dedicated rotation in the embryology laboratory at Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York.

Clinical and Surgical Training

Clinical training of the fellows takes place in multiple venues during a period of 18 months. The fellows are trained in reproductive endocrinology and the art of ART by 14 board eligible or board certified reproductive endocrinologists at Mount Sinai and RMA of NY. Their training is supplemented by Medical and Pediatric Endocrinology and Genetics clinics in the respective departments. Surgical training is provided by the Faculty at REI Division and supplemented by a two-month rotation to Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Division. Surgical procedures are performed at Mount Sinai East, Mount Sinai West, and at ambulatory surgical facilities throughout the Mount Sinai Health System.

Research

Our fellowship program dedicates eighteen months to basic and clinical science research. Fellows have access to a wide variety of clinical and basic science opportunities with faculty in our own department and in other departments at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Fellows are tasked with the creation, execution, and presentation of scholarly projects. Fellows are matched with a mentor who is a subject matter expert. There is dedicated data collection and statistical analysis support available to help complete both basic and clinical scientific projects. The Program conducts weekly research meetings that include Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility faculty, data analysts, and scientists. Fellows are encouraged to assist residents with their research projects. As a result of these robust research endeavors, the division annually presents dozens of scientific abstracts nationally and internationally at scientific conferences.
