Costs of Fertility Procedures and Services

RMA of New York provides individual fertility treatment pricing and payment plans for patients based on their unique family-building goals and fertility treatment requirements. Each financial plan and the associated costs of fertility treatment will vary according to several core factors:

  • Fertility Treatment and Number Cycles
  • Testing and Monitoring
  • Ovulation Induction Medications
  • Freezing/Thawing of Eggs or Embryos and Number of Cycles

Fertility Treatments and Cycles - Cost Factors

IVF, IUI, and other fertility treatment costs vary depending on the type of treatment and number of cycles performed. Some patients conceive after a single treatment cycle, while others undergo additional cycles of the same or different methods. Each of the cycle types below and any procedures recommended by your physician will have different associated costs and fees. An RMA of New York financial coordinator can help you understand the costs of your individual fertility treatment plan and insurance coverage.

  • Timed Intercourse: Fertility specialists monitor the patient’s menstrual cycle, managing ovulation induction and medications, and advising on the optimal time for natural intercourse.
  • Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): Also known as artificial insemination, IUI is a fertility treatment in which sperm is washed (processed) and placed directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation to decrease the sperm’s distance to the egg and increase odds of fertilization.
  • In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): IVF is a fertility treatment that involves retrieving eggs and sperm, fertilizing them in a laboratory to create embryos, then placing an embryo into the uterus to achieve pregnancy. Different IVF procedures and assisted reproductive techniques may be indicated in a treatment plan, such as the following:
  • IVF Cycle Types/Procedures

    • IVF Fresh ET (Embryo Transfer)
    • Freeze All Embryos with PGT (Preimplantation Genetic Testing) & FET (Frozen Embryo Transfer)
    • Freeze All Embryos with PGT (no FET)
    • Freeze All Embryos (no PGT)
    • Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)
    • Embryo Thaw/PGT Biopsy/Refreeze
    • Embryo Thaw/PGT Biopsy/Refreeze + FET
    • ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection)
    • Assisted Hatching
    • Perc TESA (Percutaneous Testicular Sperm Aspiration)
    • Open TESA / MESA (Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration)

Fertility Testing, Diagnostics, & Monitoring Fees

Based on the patient’s insurance plan and out-of-network benefits, fertility testing, infertility diagnostics, and treatment cycle monitoring appointments may be covered in full, in part, or require out-of-pocket payment. The following tests and appointments are common during fertility workup and treatment, and can impact the cost of fertility treatment.

Female Fertility Testing and Diagnostics

  • Transvaginal Ultrasound: Imaging procedure to evaluate the female reproductive organs.
  • Saline Infusion Sonogram (SIS): Test to see into the uterus to evaluate the ovaries and fallopian tubes. Also known as sonohysterography.
  • AMH: Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH), a blood test that is a gauge of ovarian reserve, or estimated egg count.
  • In-House Laboratory Services: Processing of test specimens using state-of-the-art technology and equipment, with all results reviewed and analyzed by RMA of New York fertility experts.

Monitoring Appointments
Frequent monitoring is required to check hormone levels, egg development, and early pregnancy. Visits take place at an RMA of New York office location convenient to the patient. The cost of monitoring appointments may be included in your treatment plan.

  • Ultrasound Plus Blood Draws: Both are needed several times per week during crucial stages of the fertility cycle process before intrauterine insemination (IUI), IVF egg retrieval, or embryo transfer.
  • Blood Draws: Blood test results show hormone levels and other important indicators, and so are necessary on a regular basis throughout fertility treatment.
  • Follow-Up Visits:Your fertility care team checks your health and fertility progress.

Male Fertility Testing and Diagnostics
The cost of semen analysis and other male fertility tests used to diagnose male infertility may be covered by the patient’s insurance plan.

  • Semen Analysis: This laboratory analysis provides information about various factors influencing male fertility, including ejaculate volume, sperm density (concentration), movement (motility), and shape (morphology).
  • Scrotal Ultrasound: Imaging provides insights about the health and function of testicles and the tubes holding sperm.
  • In-House Laboratory Services: Processing of test specimens using state-of-the-art technology and equipment, with all results reviewed and analyzed by RMA of New York fertility experts.

IVF Laboratory Procedures

  • ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection): is a technique that injects a single sperm directly into an egg.
  • PGT (Preimplantation Genetic Testing): Embryos created during an IVF cycle are tested for genetic abnormalities prior to being transferred to the patient’s uterus.
  • Assisted Hatching: is a procedure in which embryologists help the embryo “hatch” from its “shell” by making a small hole in the zona pellucida.

Fertility Medications / Ovulation Induction (OI) Medications Costs

Whether your fertility plan calls for timed intercourse, IUI, IVF, egg freezing, or egg donation, there may be a need for fertility medication(s), to stimulate egg production by the ovaries and/or to ensure the uterus is ready for insemination or embryo implantation. Fertility medications may be covered in full, in part, or not be covered under your individual insurance plan.

  • Clomid or Letrozole: Oral medications are usually taken for five days starting on the third, fourth, or fifth day of the menstrual cycle to spur ovulation prior to natural insemination (timed intercourse) or intrauterine insemination (IUI).
    • Medication Cost: Quoted to patients by their pharmacy.
  • GND: Gonadotropins (GND) are injectable fertility medications to stimulate ovulation prior to IUI.
    • Medication Cost: Quoted to patients by their pharmacy.
    • Injection Cost: Quoted to patients by their pharmacy.

Fertility Preservation - Cost Factors

Egg, sperm, and embryo freezing are frequently used during fertility treatment cycles and for fertility preservation for the future.

The cost of fertility preservation may be impacted by the specific fertility cryopreservation services indicated to meet your individual treatment goals. Your treatment plan may include:

  • Egg Freezing
  • Freezing of All Retrieved Eggs and Embryos, plus PGT
  • Freezing of All Retrieved Eggs and Embryos without PGT
  • Embryo Thawing, PGT, and Refreezing
  • Frozen Egg Thawing with Refreezing after PGT
  • Sperm Freezing
  • Cryogenic storage of eggs, sperm, or embryos; fees charged in six-month increments.
