Reports on the increase in measles cases show no signs of slowing down. In addition to the fear of contraction, many women worry measles could cause infertility. The answer is split among experts. “In women, there does not appear to be an impact on fertility but, data are still being collected and analyzed,” said Dr. Alan Copperman. Experts do agree that the virus is dangerous during pregnancy because it can cause preterm labor, low birth weight, and even maternal death.
